Stadia is Google's premier gaming platform. A console that uses cloud streaming, Stadia launched in 2019. Three years on, the platform provides access to hundreds of games, from indie projects to AAA titles. But is Google ending support for Stadia in 2022?
As of writing, there’s been no official announcement from Google about the shutting down of Stadia. But reports from within Google, as well as an article from Business Insider, suggest that the Stadia console idea is being quietly pushed to the background. Going forward, Stadia is earmarked to become a “technology platform for industry partners.”

These partners include Bungie, Capcom, and Peloton, who seem to be teaming up with Google to create new options for publishing. The goal is to create streaming game tech, with the Stadia name now being associated with streaming games in general.
The Stadia console itself had its production scaled back over 2021, and it will likely be removed from sale at some point in the future. Instead, the Stadia brand will come to represent Google’s platform that gives developers and publishers a platform to stream games to consumers.
This means more than just consoles and PCs. With Peloton partnering with Google, Stadia technology has already facilitated games on the exercise bike. Lanebreak, an on-bike video game, is set to release sometime this year.
Meanwhile, Stadia will stay open and has games set to launch on the platform throughout 2022. While Stadia may not be around for long, it's not shutting down just yet. Instead, it's changing the way it operates as a whole.
